Please join us in a day of slower paced driving along paved country roads in Eastern Connecticut. We will pass through the towns of Colchester, Avery Corner, Salem, Exeter, and Lebanon. This is primarily a driving tour of relatively flat countryside that you can drive at your own pace. We have two primary stops. Gasoline is available along the route, about 1 mile from parking, but we will not pass any stations until almost lunch time.
There is gas and other breakfast food (Dunkin’ Donuts) available before leaving town. Leaving Colchester we will travel towards Salem, CT and along some interesting roads and water features. After following alongside Lake Hayward, we will curve back to the Zagray Farm Museum to behold the ancient farm equipment and machinery that may have been used around the same time as some of the vehicles on the tour!
From Zagray’s we will travel to Roberto’s Log Cabin for lunch and enter into the north end of Lebanon, CT. The restaurant known as the Cozy, Rustic Home of Comfort Food™ is family owned and operated and offers a diverse menu of hearty fare—from Burgers, “the Best Ribs in the State”, and a wide range of Entrées from Tacos, to Healthy Choices and Pizza—including Gluten-friendly Pizza and other dishes.
After a delicious lunch, we will jaunt down to the Lebanon Historical Society on the historic Lebanon town green to view the museum on site as well as the William Beaumont House. There are several other historic properties along the Lebanon town green including the Governor Jonathan Trumbull House, the Revolutionary War Office, and the Jonathan Trumbull Jr. House Museum.
From the Lebanon Green, we will begin the trip back to Colchester via farm country in Avery Corner, CT. This route takes us into the southern end of Colchester which will bring us by both Sweet Aroma Coffeehouse & Bakery and Mel’s Downtown Creamery for baked goodies or ice cream in the early afternoon before returning to the trailers in the school parking lot.
